OFFICIALLY ON THE SYLLABUS
Each lecture includes a case study, sentences you can borrow, a three-line cheat sheet, a short exam and one small assignment. The Faculty takes your family seriously. Its own academic grandeur is another matter.
Expectations, the first six weeks, building a village and looking after the grown-ups.
The mental load, shared decisions, grandparents, money and ten minutes not about the children.
Toddlers, screens, school mornings, listening and discipline without the drama.
Teenagers, phones, privacy, trust and keeping the door open.
Blended families, two homes, single parents, adoption and the families we choose.
Family traditions, the group chat, hard years and parents who are getting older.
A PEEK INSIDE · FROM THE FIRST EDITION
A family is the only organisation most of us will ever join without an interview. Nobody checked your references. You were not asked whether you wanted a brother. The post of parent, if you hold it, was filled without a handover, by a person who had last been in sole charge of a houseplant. And the people who trained you, such as they were, learned the job from people who had never been asked either.
This book fills the gap. It is a complete course in thirty short lectures, from the weeks before a child arrives to the day your own parents start needing lifts. Along the way there are case studies, sentences you may borrow and small examinations that can be passed while waiting outside a swimming lesson. It is meant to make you laugh. It is also meant to make you slightly easier to live with, and the Faculty has never accepted that those are separate aims.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For parents, co-parents, step-parents, foster caregivers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, grown-up children and chosen families. One parent is a full team. The jokes are on the adult reading, never the children or the way a family came together.
A thoughtful read for a new arrival, a birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or a family milestone. Give it with affection, never as a performance review.
Humor and general guidance, not a substitute for professional advice. Paperback production files are prepared, but no paperback purchase link or release date has been confirmed.
